Codex Design Sense Still Feels Behind

OpenAI Codex’s design sense still feels behind. I gave the exact same prompt to Codex and Claude Code: “You are a senior product designer and front-end architect conducting a critical design review of a personal website…”

I then asked each to execute its own plan and compared the results side by side. OpenAI’s version felt dated, heavy, and busy. Claude Code’s felt cleaner, more elegant, and much better suited to the project.

I’ve found the opposite to be true when it comes to coding. Claude Code is slower, and token usage climbs much faster. So over the past month, I use Claude for UX and design direction, then use OpenAI to actually build.
